    Long lasting flowers in white

    Why Island Dream Hibiscus?

The Island Dream Hibiscus (Hibiscus sinensis) were developed in Denmark with the specific idea of making new varieties that have huge flowers in very bright colours. But their biggest achievement is flowers that will last for 4-6 days compared to many old Hibiscus varieties which have flowers that only last for 1 day.

    Best growing conditions

Hibiscus need to be planted in full sun, because the more sun they receive the more flowers they make.

Can they be grown in patio pots?

Yes, but follow these guidelines: use a large container 50-60cm in diameter to give the roots plenty of space to grow. Only use the best potting mix and apply generous amounts of controlled release fertilizer in Spring. All this will cause new shoots to grow, and with the new shoots new flowers will adorn your beautiful plants.

How to plant and make a flowering hedge

Plant at 35-45cm spacing to create a colourful low hedge, or at 80cm if you want them spaced apart. Prune in Spring at 70-90cm height if you would like to keep a lower flowering hedge or let it grow a little higher to 1.5m. If they are never cut back a maximum height of 3m could be reached in 10 years. It is best to prune in Spring before the new growth starts in Summer. If pruning is done in Summer then there is a good chance you will cut off all the flower buds that would otherwise be enjoyed over the Summer.

    Flowering Period

Island Dream Hibiscus will flower continuously throughout the warmer months. In Sydney they will start flowering in November and can continue until April. The flowering period for VIC will be a little less - by about 2 weeks at either end of the season. In QLD flowering will start earlier than Sydney and last much longer. Perth will be similar to Sydney.
