Festuca Beyond Blue™
The DESIGN EDGE® series of grasses are well suited to landscape projects. Their ability to tolerate dry conditions and their heat and cold hardiness make them a reliable performer.
Used by Kyal and Kara at Long Jetty
Beyond Blue™ was planted among large cream-white pebbles at Kyal and Kara's latest reno at Long Jetty, NSW. To lead visitors to the front door from
the driveway Kyal made large stepping platforms spaced in a random pattern. This design alleviated the continuous flow of concrete and added greater
interest to the entry area. The spaces between the driveway and stepping platforms provided ideal places for plants and Beyond Blue was chosen for
its light blue colour and toughness in a situation where it is likely to get stepped upon.
Where to plant
Beyond Blue™ can be planted in lots of different situations. As in Kyal and Kara's Long Jetty reno it can be planted among pebbles, or in the garden
as a border plant. Also consider incorporating Beyond Blue in succulent container plantings to provide a contrast in texture. Reaching about 35cm wide
and high it will not over take or over shadow surrounding plants. Plant in full sun or part sun, which means sun for at least 5 hours a day.
How to care
Beyond Blue starts growing new leaves in Spring so a cut back in late winter is ideal. This will remove any older leaves that turn brown. However, if you
get busy and forget to cut it before the news leaves start emerging don't worry because you can cut it back at any time of the year. A cut back is
a good idea because it keeps the plant really fresh looking. Use sharp clippers and cut down the tuft, usually to 10cm above soil level.
